Dear Residents and Families of Birch Bay Retirement Village,

I hope you all are having a nice week and enjoying the beautiful June weather. We currently have no cases of COVID-19 among our staff and residents.

Over the last month, our vaccinated residents and their families have enjoyed the relaxing of restrictions as our community continues to feel more at ease. Cottage Residents may now visit the Inn for dining room reservations, group activities and the use of our community facilities such as our library and Fox Fitness Center.

The good weather means more opportunities for off-campus travel for our residents with their families and with our Activities team. If you follow us on Facebook, you will see photos of residents enjoying all our campus and island has to offer! The seedlings in our gardens around campus have been planted and our Memory Garden has fresh mulch and new plantings. If you are interested in donating to our community garden project please contact James Hoke at jhoke@birchbayvillage.us

We would like to also welcome new faces to our staff. Lauren Shirley has joined us as our Front Desk Receptionist and Christine Harding has joined us as our Executive Assistant. In addition to new additions to our front office team, we also are excited to share that Chef Louis Kiefer has joined us as Executive Chef and Director of Dining Services. His first day will be July 6th. Chef Louis brings a great wealth of knowledge and fine dining experience. He was recently named the 2020 Chef of the Year by Maine Hospitality. Chef Maggie Geary will stay on as Sous Chef and work together with Chef Louis to create the best dining experience for all our residents.

As we welcome new faces, we also would like to recognize that our Director of Health Services, Michael Smith, will be leaving the Birch Bay organization this summer as he relocates his family out of state. We thank Michael for his service to the organization and wish him the very best.

Next week we will be sending out exciting information regarding the re-opening of our Birch Bay Salon. We are excited to welcome residents to the newly renovated space thanks to the generosity of former residents Stan and Maria Rooney.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.

Sincerely,

Peter Sullivan, MBA, RN-BC, LRCA, CDP, Executive Director, Birch Bay Retirement Village
