We offer three distinct floor plans for our one-story cottages. Our Main Inn houses one and two-bedroom apartments, residential care suites, memory care units, an adult day program and a variety of community areas.

Birch Bay Retirement Village: Non-Profit, Community Focused
Birch Bay is the area’s only non-profit retirement community. Birch Bay Village is a member of the Mount Desert Island Hospital Organization, a non-profit healthcare organization serving MDI and surrounding communities through a 25-bed critical access facility in Bar Harbor and a network of area health centers—all designed to provide comprehensive healthcare for residents and visitors.
Located a short distance from Birch Bay Village, Mount Desert Island Hospital offers award-winning inpatient and outpatient services and 24-hour emergency care. The hospital was established more than 100 years ago by both year-round and summer residents committed to improving the health of our unique island community. Birch Bay Village was founded to complement this historically strong commitment to the health and welfare of the community.
Since it was established in 1897, the MDI Hospital Organization has grown into a state-of-the-art, rural healthcare organization including Birch Bay Retirement Village and eight regional health centers, including a full-service behavioral health center and dental clinic.
