Residents may choose to age in place at Birch Bay Village throughout the many stages of dementia. Birch Bay can provide minimal, moderate, extensive or even total support with care needs through the challenges of the Alzheimer’s and dementia disease process.
Caring & Dedicated Staff
Birch Bay’s staff is trained in Alzheimer’s & dementia care using the GEMS™ and Positive Approach to Caregiving™ techniques.**
Residents receive around-the-clock support from our care team which includes a registered nurse, a residential care coordinator, well-trained support specialists, a full-time activities assistant, and board-certified music therapist.
All staff- including housekeeping, maintenance and dietary- go through dementia training to learn the best ways to relate to those living with memory impairment. This training through Birch Bay’s Learning Institute includes how to connect, redirect and support our residents.

Inside Safe Harbor
Safe Harbor is small neighborhood of sixteen residents; each resident has their own private suite with a private bath, and many rooms offer scenic views of Frenchman Bay.
In a home-like environment, Safe Harbor resident dine family style on healthy and hearty meals.
Safe Harbor’s Memory Garden is a secure outdoor living space our residents can enjoy. Residents can enjoy the sunshine, breathe in the fresh air, tend to the herbs and vegetables, and feel the breeze of the nearby bay.
New in 2018, Birch Bay offers a newly designed spa room featuring a large shower and a therapeutic spa tub for residents to use.
To promote a more full and purposeful living experience for our memory care residents, our Life Enrichment Specialist learns about the life experiences, personal preferences, and individual abilities that make each of our residents unique. We create a plan utilizing this information that reinforces and promotes each resident’s capabilities and allows each resident to find purpose and meaning in their life.
The Life Enrichment Program at Birch Bay Retirement Village adds to our resident’s quality of life and provides opportunities for residents to do meaningful activities that they enjoy, such as baking, gardening, hiking, music, woodworking, movement and exercise, arts and crafts, and so much more. The program also provides individual opportunities for those unable to take part in group activities.
Our Board Certified Music Therapist uses her demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide residents with individual and group therapy. The benefits of Music Therapy are known to make an impact on resident’s levels of agitation, improve communication capabilities, reduce pain, improve sleep patterns, reduce sundowning, and assist in resident’s ability to communicate.
