Dear Residents & Families,

We continue to have no cases of COVID-19 among our staff and residents at Birch Bay Retirement Village.

This afternoon the State of Maine CDC identified that new cases of COVID-19 have reached a HIGH transmission rate in Hancock County.

The State of Maine, CDC and DHHS direct congregate care facilities like Birch Bay to use their guidelines regarding visitation, staffing, communal dining, transportation, and group activities.

The high transmission rate reached, Birch Bay will move to our plan for outdoor-only visitation as required.

We want to assure our residents and their families that we are enacting our winter plan that focuses on keeping our residents health, safety and quality of life a priority.

As we shift to outdoor visits residents who are unable to visit outside in cold temperatures will have options for window or virtual visits. For those who can bundle up and get outside, we are offering a sheltered location where this can be possible. Please be aware this area simply shelters from the wind and is outdoors, without added heat.

I would like to thank you for your patience and understanding as we make adjustments to protect our residents and staff and apologize that previously scheduled visits will be effected.

Please help us by following all guidelines recommended by the State of Maine and the CDC, which include social distancing, masking, limiting non-essential trips, and handwashing.

Thank you,

Peter Sullivan, MBA, RN-BC, CDP, LRCA
