Dear Residents and Families of Birch Bay Retirement Village,

On September 10th, we were notified that one of our non-healthcare, per diem staff members has tested positive for COVID-19.

After receiving this news, we were able to determine that this staff member has not worked at Birch Bay Village for several weeks. This assures us that the staff member has had no recent close contact with Birch Bay residents since testing positive. The staff member will remain in quarantine and will not return to work at BBV until cleared by MDI Hospital following CDC guidance.

Over the course of the summer, our residents were able to enjoy the relaxing of restrictions. We would like to remind our residents and families to continue to mask in public areas inside the Birch Bay Inn. Outside of the Inn, the CDC has recommended indoor masking in public spaces (stores, schools, restaurants, and more) for both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. Please do your part and remain vigilant. We ask you to continue to encourage your friends and neighbors to wear masks and be mindful of any COVID symptoms even if you are vaccinated.

We continue to encourage all our eligible families, friends, and neighbors to get vaccinated. All the available vaccines are safe and effective in preventing serious illness or death. Vaccination continues to be our best option in ending the COVID-19 pandemic. Please remember that even after you do get vaccinated, we all need to continue to protect ourselves and others by wearing a mask, social distancing and practicing good hand hygiene.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Peter Sullivan, Executive Director, Birch Bay Retirement Village
