Dear Residents and Families of Birch Bay Retirement Village,

I hope you all are having a nice week and enjoying the beautiful spring weather. We currently have no cases of COVID-19 among our staff and residents.

The ability to offer indoor visitation continues. James Hoke, and the Life Enrichment and Activities team, are looking forward to hosting more outdoor activities for all neighborhoods of our community. Our Apartment, Pleasant Cove, and Safe Harbor residents may now all leave campus for appointments/services supervised by staff, independently, or with family/friends. We encourage you to get your loved ones outside now that the warmer spring temperatures are arriving.

Although the CDC and State of Maine have updated their recommendations to allow for vaccinated adults to be outside without masking, the rules established by the Assisted Housing Licensing division have not changed for residents of communities such as Birch Bay. Please continue to wear cloth face coverings or masks (including when you are outside), social distance, and limit contact with others. Safe distancing, frequent hand washing, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, and avoid frequently touched surfaces are imperative to your safety.

We would also like to recognize the upcoming departure of our front desk Administrative Assistant, Sara Starbuck. Sara has built a great rapport with staff, residents and families she since began at BBRV in 2017. Her last day is this Friday, April 30. We wish Sara all the best in her new career.

Over the last couple of months, we have been able to relax some restrictions for all Birch Bay residents. Restrictions have been relaxed due to the community’s effort in receiving vaccines. The only way restrictions may be able to be further reduced will be for the greater community to continue getting vaccinated. We encourage you, your friends and families to take advantage of the increased availability of vaccines in our area. The rate of which Mainer’s are vaccinated is the only way we can move to our pre-pandemic lives.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.

Sincerely,

Peter Sullivan, MBA, RN-BC, LRCA, CDP, Executive Director, Birch Bay Retirement Village
